  3. 03Migrated monitoring for 80+ services from Nagios to Prometheus + Grafana, slashing false-positive alert volume by 65%.
  4. 04Authored Terraform modules for VPC, EKS, and RDS, dropping new-environment provisioning time from 3 days to 2 hours.

5 questions Site Reliability Engineer candidates hear

  1. Q1Walk me through the worst incident you led as incident commander. What went wrong and what changed after the postmortem?
  2. Q2How do you define SLOs for a new service? Where do you start the conversation with the product team?
  3. Q3Explain how the Linux OOM killer works and when it might bite you in a Kubernetes cluster.
  4. Q4An alert fires: p99 latency jumped from 200ms to 2s in 5 minutes. Walk me through your first moves.
  5. Q5When would you choose push over pull-based monitoring? Where does Prometheus stop being the right tool?
FAQ

Common questions about this CV

How is SRE different from DevOps on a resume?

SRE leans on reliability outcomes: SLOs, error budgets, postmortems, MTTR. DevOps reads more pipeline-and-tooling. If your day is about keeping production up, frame yourself as SRE, even if your job title says otherwise.

Should I list on-call experience?

Absolutely. It signals that you've shipped to real production and handled real incidents. Mention rotation cadence and a few major incidents you closed out.

How many certifications do I really need?

CKA or CKAD carry weight, AWS/GCP certs are a nice bonus. Two or three relevant certs beat ten. Certs without projects behind them won't save a thin resume.

Are pet projects worth listing?

Yes, if you have a Kubernetes homelab, an OSS contribution, or a Terraform module of your own, link the GitHub. For SRE roles, hands-on practice outweighs theory every time.
