5 questions DevOps Engineer candidates hear

  1. Q1Walk me through the worst production incident you handled. What was the root cause and what did you change after the post-mortem?
  2. Q2How would you design a CI/CD pipeline for a Go monorepo with 20 services? Stages, caching, deploy strategy?
  3. Q3Explain the difference between a StatefulSet and a Deployment in Kubernetes. When would you pick each?
  4. Q4How do you find and reduce AWS costs? What tools have you used in practice?
  5. Q5Two engineers run terraform apply at the same time against the same S3 backend. What goes wrong and how do you prevent it?
FAQ

Common questions about this CV

Do I need certifications to land a DevOps role?

Not strictly, but CKA or AWS Solutions Architect noticeably bump your CV up the pile. They matter most for junior and mid roles where you need to back up your hands-on experience with something.

What do I emphasise if I'm transitioning from sysadmin to DevOps?

Lean hard on automation: Bash and Python scripts, Ansible playbooks, any CI work. Anything you used to do by hand and then scripted away is the start of a DevOps mindset, and recruiters notice that pivot.

Should I include side projects on my CV?

Yes, especially with under 2 years of experience. A small Terraform module on GitHub or a Kubernetes home lab tells recruiters far more than three lines listing 'Docker, Linux, Git'.

How long should the CV be?

One page if you have under 5 years of experience. Two pages if you have more and genuinely have substance to fill them. Anything longer and recruiters just stop reading.

How important is English for DevOps roles?

B1 is enough for the Ukrainian market, but international teams expect B2 minimum. You'll write in English on-call, in incident channels, and in post-mortems every single week.
