Required Engineer Skills:
Data Engineering: ETL/ELT pipeline design (our framework); chunked processing partitioned across k8s worker nodes (distinct from the old VM-based approach — distributed workload understanding required); schema mapping (Oracle/SQL Server → BigQuery); row-count validation and data quality checks.
Backend Development: Python 3.x (threading, decorators, generators, context managers); Flask (routing, middleware, blueprints, request lifecycle); REST API design; SQL (transactions, row-level locking, window functions).
Databases: PostgreSQL on GCP PaaS — pooling, migrations, query optimization. Familiarity with Oracle (config, dialect differences) and SQL Server (source extraction).
Google Cloud Platform: BigQuery (DDL/DML, schema, datasets); Cloud Storage; Secret Manager (with k8s); service accounts/ADC (WIF/WIP); general Kubernetes familiarity.
DevOps & Infrastructure: Docker/Podman; CI/CD (Azure DevOps or similar), env var/secrets management; distributed systems (heartbeats, locking, crash recovery on k8s).
General Software Engineering: Multithreading (locking, thread-safe state); background job scheduling; structured logging with per-job isolation; robust error handling/graceful degradation; database migration authoring.
