━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
🐾 About Us Kennel Connection is a US-based SaaS company serving pet care businesses. We are a product company, not an agency — we own and develop our software in-house and are building a long-term team.
🎯 Role Overview We are looking for a focused Business Analyst / specification engineer to own the requirements and specs that drive our product. This is a hands-on specification role — focused on doing the detailed work of writing clear, build-ready specs quickly, rather than managing process or projects. We provide product direction and context; you turn requirements into specs the team can build from.
Good up-front specs are the single biggest lever on our delivery speed. With detailed specs and crisp acceptance criteria in hand, our developers move dramatically faster and our QA load drops. The role covers both sides of typical BA work: capturing functional requirements AND designing the UI/UX to meet them — including producing mockups. It's a hands-on role with real ownership of the specs that move the whole team forward.
🛠️ What You'll Do • Understand functional requirements and customer needs — harvest info from stakeholders and synthesize it • Sit in on discussions and meetings to bring in knowledge and surface the real requirements • Produce mockups and descriptions of how each functional requirement will be met — designing the UI/UX, screens, and detailed user flows • Write clear acceptance criteria and testing steps so developers and QA know exactly what "done" means and how to validate it • Break features down into well-defined, unambiguous, build-ready specs • Produce specs quickly — turnaround speed is a core part of this role • Collaborate closely with developers and product as questions come up
For every feature, you'll essentially be answering: What does it need to do and why? How can we best design the UI/UX to do that? What are the detailed steps and screens needed? And how do QA and developers validate that it works as planned?
🔎 What We're Looking For • Proven experience as a Business Analyst / requirements or specification writer for software products • A "generate specs quickly" mindset — you produce clear, complete specifications fast, without getting bogged down • Strong skill in writing acceptance criteria and unambiguous requirements • Ability to design UI/UX and produce mockups / wireframes that show how a feature will work, not just describe it • A real feel for UI/UX and the human factor in product design — you understand how users actually behave • A hands-on, get-it-done attitude — you enjoy doing the detailed nuts-and-bolts work and working from the direction we provide • Clear, written English (B2+) — you will write a lot of specs and documentation • Looking for a stable, long-term role — not a short project
⭐ Nice to Have • Background in the pet care or veterinary industry (or related software) — familiarity with the space is a real advantage, though strong BAs without it are still encouraged to apply • Experience working with US-based product teams • Background in SaaS for SMB customers
🎁 We Offer • A clear, high-impact role where your specs directly drive how fast the whole team ships • A paid trial contract to start, converting to a long-term / full-time contract for the right person • Direct collaboration with developers and product — no layers of bureaucracy • Friendly, supportive team • Salary growth based on impact • Flexible hours (with 4 hour EST overlap)
