FAQ

Common questions about this CV

Do I need a CFA to get a mid-level role?

Not strictly, but it's a strong differentiator in a competitive market. Many employers value CFA Level 1 or 2, or ACCA in progress, as a signal of serious commitment. You can land roles without certification if your modelling portfolio and impact are strong.

How long should my CV be?

One page for junior and mid roles, up to two pages for senior candidates with 7+ years of experience. Trim older details before shrinking the font size.

Can I include real numbers from past jobs if they're confidential?

Yes, but anonymise them. Use percentages, order of magnitude ('budget of $5M+') or relative gains ('cut close cycle by 40%'). Avoid quoting internal KPIs or named client figures verbatim.

How do I position myself if I'm transitioning from audit or accounting?

Highlight the analytical pieces of your past work: variance analysis, model reviews, recommendations to management. Drop routine operational tasks and surface the tools you've used, especially Excel and SQL.

Is Python required for a financial analyst role?

Not required, but a strong plus, especially in fintech and large corporates. Pandas-level skills for automating recurring reports are usually enough to stand out.
