About the role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with strong hands-on expertise in MySQL to join an international product company in Cyprus.
You will work with high-load production systems and be responsible for database availability, performance, scalability, and reliability.
This role is a great fit for an engineer who is comfortable taking ownership of production databases, solving complex performance issues, and working closely with Development and DevOps teams.
What you’ll do
Ensure high availability, performance, reliability, and security of production database systems.
Design and maintain scalable database solutions in a high-load environment.
Configure and support replication, clustering, and data migrations.
Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize queries and configurations.
Build and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
Perform database upgrades, patching, maintenance, and capacity planning.
Troubleshoot production incidents and respond to database-related alerts.
Collaborate with Development and DevOps teams on architecture and database efficiency.
Improve automation and contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code practices using Ansible or similar tools.
What we’re looking for
3+ years of commercial experience as a DBA / Database Engineer, preferably in high-load or large-scale production environments.
Strong hands-on experience with MySQL.
Practical experience with Percona and/or MariaDB.
Strong understanding of database architecture, replication, clustering, performance tuning, and query optimization.
Experience designing and maintaining backup & recovery / disaster recovery solutions.
Good understanding of data integrity and database security best practices.
Strong Linux knowledge, preferably Debian / Ubuntu.
Experience with Ansible or similar automation tools.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to take ownership and work effectively in an international team.
Nice to have
Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or other database technologies.
Experience with very large/high-traffic databases.
Infrastructure automation / IaC background.
