Outstaff Hiring: Remote — Contract (Full-time, Long-term)
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Rust Engineer to join our client’s engineering team.
This is primarily a backend-focused role, working on production Rust applications, distributed systems, APIs, and databases, with some frontend development using React.
You’ll be responsible for building, improving, and maintaining reliable, high-performance applications in a cloud-based environment.
We’re looking for someone with strong hands-on Rust experience who can take ownership of their work, solve complex technical problems, and contribute to the team’s engineering decisions.

What You’ll Do
Design, develop, and maintain production Rust applications, backend services, and APIs.Write and optimize complex SQL queries for performance and scalability.
Debug production issues, including concurrency problems, memory-related issues, and performance bottlenecks.
Contribute to frontend development using React when needed.
Design and maintain microservices and distributed systems.
Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
Deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot applications running on Kubernetes.
Implement logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting.
Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and architecture decisions.
Mentor junior engineers and share Rust best practices.
Use AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor or Claude CLI while maintaining code quality and security.
Must-Have Requirements
5+ years of commercial Rust experience building and maintaining production applications.
Strong knowledge of Rust ownership, lifetimes, traits, error handling, and async programming.
Experience with Tokio, async-std, or similar async runtimes.
Experience with Rust frameworks such as Axum, Actix, Warp, or similar.
Strong backend engineering experience, including APIs, background workers, and scalable services.
Experience debugging production Rust applications, including panics, deadlocks, and performance issues.
Strong SQL skills, including complex joins, window functions, indexing, and query optimization.
Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational databases.
Experience writing unit and integration tests.
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized environments.
Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or Jaeger.
Good English communication skills.
Ability to work independently and mentor other engineers.
Nice to Have
Experience with microservices and distributed systems, including gRPC, message queues, and event-driven architectures.
Experience with React and micro frontend architectures.
Experience with AWS or GCP.
Infrastructure as Code experience.
Experience with property-based testing or fuzz testing.
Experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Claude CLI, or similar.
