Preliminary scope of work:
Profile: Cloud Infrastructure Engineer — Web Operations
1. Perimeter & Traffic ManagementThe GCP Goal: Deep understanding of Cloud Load Balancing (HTTP/S), Cloud Armor(WAF rules), and Cloud DNS. Ability to route traffic, manage global SSL certificates, and configure path-based routing. The Acceptable Equivalent: High-level experience with AWS (ALB/Route53/WAF), Azure Application Gateway, or Enterprise Cloudflare/Akamai environments. We value the architectural understanding of how to handle traffic at the “Edge” regardless of the provider.
2. Web-Centric DevOps (PHP/Performance) The GCP Goal: Experience tuning GCP Backend Services to support PHP-based environments. Understanding how Nginx/Apache, PHP-FPM, and Varnish caching layers interact with a Cloud Load Balancer. The Acceptable Equivalent: Experience managing high-traffic LEMP/LAMP stacks in any cloud or dedicated environment. The candidate must understand the “Handshake” between a Proxy and a Web Server (timeouts, headers, and connection pooling).
3. Identity & Secret Security The GCP Goal: Ability to manage IAM (Identity & Access Management) roles using the “Principle of Least Privilege” and moving sensitive credentials (API keys) into GCP Secret Manager. The Acceptable Equivalent: Proficiency with HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, or Azure Key Vault. We are looking for the security mindset of removing sensitive data from the codebase and into a managed vault.
4. Advanced Observability & Log Analysis The GCP Goal: Advanced proficiency in GCP Operations Suite (Logging/Monitoring). Ability to create Log-based Metrics and automated alerts (e.g., “Alert if the Load Balancer returns >5% 5xx errors in a 1-minute window”). The Acceptable Equivalent: Mastery of New Relic, Datadog, Splunk, or ELK Stack. The candidate should treat logs as a source for automated health-monitoring and proactive alerting, rather than just a place for manual troubleshooting.
We need an initial assesment of client’s infrastructure (40+h) and based on the findings there is a need for long term support.
