About the project:
Frontline health workers — nurses, midwives, community health workers — often operate in areas with no reliable internet and limited hardware. This role is about building a mobile clinical guidance app that works in those exact conditions: offline-first, encrypted, running on entry-level Android devices. Phase 1 is a structured, deterministic decision-tree flow (not a chatbot) that walks a health worker through follow-up questions and danger-sign checks. The app needs to be reliable when connectivity isn’t.
A new team member will be in charge of:
Own the React Native mobile client end-to-end — including the versioned JSON-based clinical decision-tree implementation and on-device danger-sign flagging logic.
Build and maintain the offline-first data layer with encrypted local storage using SQLite with SQLCipher via an open-source-compatible driver (op-sqlite or expo-sqlite).
Drive the sync architecture between the mobile client and backend, designed for intermittent-connectivity field conditions — including conflict-resolution edge cases.
Define the boundary between deterministic clinical logic running on the client and AI-assisted features handled server-side, working directly with the backend and AI team.
Does this relate to you?
4+ years of hands-on React Native development with TypeScript, with at least one production Android app shipped — not just maintained.
Solid experience with offline-first mobile architecture and encrypted local storage (SQLite/SQLCipher or equivalent) — you’ve dealt with the edge cases, not just the happy path.
You’ve built sync and conflict-resolution logic for apps that can’t rely on a stable connection.
Comfortable debugging state and sync transitions across offline/online boundaries — you know where things break and why.
You’ve worked within the constraints of low-spec Android hardware: memory pressure, limited storage, battery sensitivity.
You can hold your own at the boundary between client-side deterministic logic and server-side AI features — comfortable with ambiguity and able to define clear contracts.
Hands-on with agentic AI tools to accelerate development workflows — using them to move faster, not to replace thinking.
B2+ level of English.
Familiarity with Android build tooling, op-sqlite or expo-sqlite, and mobile CI/testing pipelines; healthcare or clinical app experience is a strong plus.
